Teaching Area and Perimeter

Tips to teach area and perimeter.

Kids often have a lot of difficulty in distunguishing the difference between Area and Perimeter. Many times I leave the formula thing for last while I exhaust the skills of 'adding up all the sides' and 'counting the smaller squares' which sooner or later will have to be 'shelved' for the more complex algorithmic formulas.

A few months ago I found a link to a site that can help students make the distinction with the help of two wonderful songs. It is from the site gillville2point0.edublogs.org I have tried to get the lyrics but I could not find them so here they are:

Song 1: Andrea Area (Click picture)

Song 2: Perry Perimeter (Click picture)

Here is a little extra class anchor chart for you!
